Heroes and Villains Take Over the Primary Academy

Last week (10/03/14) was an exciting time for The Folkestone Primary Academy with pupils celebrating a ‘Hero and Villains’ themed Book Week.  Pupils have been learning across the curriculum exploring both fiction and non-fiction writing, along with a full week of planned activities.

Throughout the week all pupils participated in a dance workshop given by 'West End in Schools' - a dance company from London. The workshops were tailored for each year group and themed around a book the children were familiar with.  Year 5 and 6 students took part in a journalist talk, learning how to develop their own interviewing skills to use in a forthcoming project. Finally the week ended with their annual dressing up day, where children were able to show off their hero or villain costumes during their whole school assembly.  During that time each year group performed their 'hero-themed' song that they had been practising over the last few weeks.

Miss Camilla Claxton, Year 2 Teacher, organised the schedule of activities for Book Week.  She comments on the week’s event: “Book Week is all about giving the children opportunities across the curriculum to develop their Literacy skills in a fun and engaging way.  All week we’ve had big smiles of enjoyment and enthusiasm on the children’s faces so we have certainly achieved it!”
